edm #5: draw your bed

For some reason, drawing my bed isn't something that really snaps my wire, if you know what I mean; but hey, it's art and art doesn't really give much of a whatever about it. So, here it is, my bed for challenge #5.

Some of you more discerning followers (do I have one yet?) know this isn't the first time I've done this challenge. Once before, in a far, far sketchbook, there is another sketch of my bed and here's the link so you can check it out.

edm #4: draw your mug or cup

Over the course of my pursuit of things artsy/fartsy, I have progressed from #2 pencils, to watercolor, to a whole assortment of charcoals, graphites, and ball point pens. The latest, and longest assortment of tools has become the Pigma Micron pen. They come in a variety of nib sizes, they are durable, water-proof, and fun.

So I keep them in this mug, painted by Vinny Van Gogh. Well, he didn't actually "paint" this one, but one of his most famous, and less liked by me, paintings has been applied to the surface of this porcelain coffee cup/mug.

I have an entire series of mugs decorated with Vinny's images, some of them are the real images, and some of them are some two-bit artists renditions of what his art "looked like." I guess it's the ambience of the mug, sometimes, that makes one feel all smarmy about Vinny, coffee, and the morning news.

Anyway, this is number 4 of the series of which there are, at last count, 247 challenges. My wife asked me what I had in mind to do today, I told her, "I'm going to draw the bed (#5)." She laughed at me and told me to find something useful to do...like put away the summer furniture that still sits outside where it was in June. Do you remember June: sun, warm, birds chirping, bbq going full blast, cold beer, fresh veggies? I like June better.

Original #4 posted here.

edm #3: Draw a purse, wallet or bag

My wife's new red leather bag is much more interesting than my worn out old black wallet, I'm sure you will agree. What I, and most men, don't understand though is the need of such a monster bag when simply going to the movies, the grocery store, the gas station.

It's a mystery of significant dimension.

How do we go these places, guys, with only a small leather wallet in our hip pockets and still come out without major incident - like the women intimate when they are without their purses, or bags?

edm #2: Draw a Lamp

This lamp isn't even close to the one I had in my head to draw for this challenge when I went to bed last night. When I got up this morning I was still thinking aobut the old lamp on my computer desk to draw, the one I had thought about when I went to bed.

So when I got my sketchbook, pens and watercolors, I drew this one instead. It was sorta like I hadn't noticed this one as something to sketch before and then all of a sudden, there it was, staring at me and sketchbook.

Then when I added the script at the bottom I almost wrote that it was in our "dining room," but you'll see how I caught that, just in the nick of time, or maybe just a bit past the nick of time depending on how you look at it.

Anyway, this lamp hangs in our kitchen nook and it gets much more use than the one hanging in the "dining room, where we seldom eat or do anything.

Just thougt you might be interested . . . lol.

edm #1: Draw a Shoe (Boot)

These boots carry the scuffs, and scratches, and even some of the dirt put there over fourteen years ago, by my father before he passed away. They are one half-size too samll for me to wear, but I keep them in my shoe/boot collection anyway.

This sketch is number "one" of my dedication to redo all the EDM challenges I have already done, along with the ones that are yet to be completed. I want to draw them sequentially in a series of sketchbooks.

I think it will be interesting to see where this project has taken me, or me it, in the coming weeks and months.
